RESPONDING TO PAIN
Pain Tempts Me to Live by Sight – Part Two
Tempted to embrace wrong assumptions
- One example of a wrong assumption about who I am:
I am how I feel.
Truth: I am who the Creator says I am: loved, accepted, and highly valued.
- One example of a wrong assumption about life:
My freedom, joy, security, confidence, or value depend on the accomplishment of my goals.
Truth: The Creator, not the accomplishment of my goals, is the ultimate source of my freedom, joy, security, confidence, and value.
- One example of a wrong assumption about relationships:
This relationship will make me a whole person.
Truth: The Creator makes me a whole person.
- One example of a wrong assumption about pain, problems, or stress:
Bad things don’t happen to good people, bad things happen to bad people.
Truth: All people experience pain, problems, and stress.
- One example of a wrong assumption about love, and the Creator, for he is love:
Love keeps others from making bad choices or from experiencing the consequences of their actions.
Truth: Love gives others freedom to make choices (good and bad). Love respects others’ choices. Love lets others experience the consequences of their actions.
